**Graduate with the highest cumulative average

Students that are required to complete “additional requirements” for the online H.B.Com degree or require a more flexible option to complete the online H.B.Com 4000 level elective, now have access to COMM 4736/RK1 and COMM 4506/PT1. What is unique about these courses is that they are 3-credit options versus the 6-credit options that have only been available in our program to date. Both RK1 and PT1 are comprised of 6 modules of learning materials that are delivered over a 12-week period. The reduced workload will provide students with an opportunity to learn at a more leisurely pace.

Students who select the 3-credit courses towards their COMM 4000 elective (replacing HC1 or IN1), must complete both RK1 and PT1 to complete the H.B.Com degree requirements. Students have the choice of completing one course at a time or, beginning in Session 4 (2010/11), students may elect to complete both courses at the same time.

Laurentian’s Faculty of Management receives Institutional Best Overall Performance Award for research at the ASAC conference

Laurentian University is pleased to announce that its Faculty of Management has received the Institutional Best Overall Performance Award for research at the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada’s annual conference (ASAC) held in Niagara Falls from June 6 to 9.

Dr. Peter Luk, dean of the Faculty of Management stressed that ASAC is becoming a major conference for academics in business and management in Canada and abroad. “This is a well-earned recognition of the Faculty of Management’s research excellence”, stated Luk.

This award recognizes research productivity per capita, and is based on a calculation comparing the number of papers accepted for presentation and/or publication at the ASAC conference to the number of full-time faculty members at each institution. It also takes into account the number of papers that receive awards during the conference.

Professors from the Faculty of Management presented 17 papers at the three-day conference, and won two awards for best paper.

The prestigious Institutional Best Overall Performance Award was created by ASAC to recognize and encourage research activity in Canadian business schools.

On Thursday, June 4, 2009 a total of 149 H.B.Com students graduated from the program. This is the largest number of graduates we've ever seen! A reception and dinner were held in honour of our online H.B.Com and MBA graduates on Thursday evening. Congratulations to you all!

COMM 4405/HC1 instructor Sheila Ward – Clowning around

The Laurentian University H.B.Com degree and the CGA designation were conferred to Lisa Adam and presented to her family in Duncan, British Columbia on April 25, 2008.

Lisa was completing her last H.B.Com course when she passed away on August 16, 2007. She was 28 years old. Lisa grew up in the Duncan area and completed a diploma in accounting at Camosun College in Victoria prior to enrolling in the CGA Program of Professional Studies. She had completed all of her CGA requirements and her practical experience. Although Lisa had been struggling with her health for more than 10 years, she worked very hard to complete her degree and obtain her CGA designation.

Sheila Ward, her COMM 4405/HC1 instructor stated that “Lisa was an excellent student. She kept in touch with me even after she had to withdraw from her course and spoke of her determination to complete her H.B.Com degree and looked forward to her future as a CGA. She will be missed and never forgotten.”
