Course Materials
The course materials usually consist of a textbook and case package. These materials are shipped through your provincial/territorial CGA affiliate or international Program Office. The materials should arrive within a few weeks from the time you enrolled in a LU business course.
If your course materials do not arrive prior to the course start date, please contact your provincial/territorial CGA affiliate or international Program Office and advise them of this issue.
It is important to verify that the appropriate course materials have been shipped to you. The list of materials required for each course is provided within the course content and is available through the learning management system (LMS).
Assignments
The course assignments are provided in the course content held in the learning management system (LMS). Course assignments may consist of weekly group work, group cases, projects and individual assignments.
As the LU business courses rely heavily on group work, it is difficult to prepare for weekly assignments prior to the course start date. As the courses are condensed and offered over a short period of time, students can get a head start through their readings only.
Assignment and Participation Marks
LU H.B.Com instructors have the option of posting assignment marks in the LMS “Gradebook”. Although participation and assignment marks are often posted in this area, the final examination mark will not. The final mark will only be posted on the official LU system, WebAdvisor. To access WebAdvisor, click on “WebAdvisor and GroupWise” link on the Navigation bar.
Group Work
Group work is required in all of the LU business courses, except for the Internship.
On the Friday prior to the course start date, the Program Manager will provide each student with a class list containing group assignments. Groups are usually comprised of 5 to 10 students.
Groups are randomly selected. However, students are generally assigned to groups based on their regional location.
Group work is incorporated in the online H.B.Com program to provide students with an opportunity to further develop leadership and communication skills. This is also an opportunity for each student to learn from the experience of others. Learning will be greatly enhanced through regular participation in weekly discussions.
As with real work situations, groups might at times encounter some difficulty working in the online environment. It is therefore important for team members to be patient and communicate well with others about issues that surface. Remember that most of the students in this program work full-time and have family and other commitments. Emergencies, overtime and travel woes will and do happen! As such, it is important that you keep the team apprised of your availability so that the group can continue to work effectively.
Examinations
Each of the LU business courses, except for the Internship, requires that you complete an in-person examination at the end of the course. It is the same examination process that CGA uses for its courses: all final examinations will be held in the regularly scheduled CGA examination sessions and in the regular CGA examination sites.
The examination sites are managed by your provincial/territorial CGA affiliate or international Program Office. For questions regarding examination location and time, please contact your provincial/territorial CGA affiliate or international Program Office.
Examination Deferral
You are strongly encouraged to write your examination during the session in which you are enrolled in the course. However you may ask to defer your examination. The deferral will be extended to the next examination session when an examination for that course is scheduled. While the examination is deferred, you will receive a grade of “T” – meaning “in progress grade” until you write the examination and you receive a final grade.
In order to write the examination at the next session, you will have to re-register for the course. Please contact your provincial/territorial CGA affiliate or international Program Office for fee information. This fee also provides you with access to the course and original discussion forum.
If you wish to defer your examination, you must advise the program manager and your provincial/territorial CGA affiliate or international Program Office at the earliest possible time, preferably up to three days in advance.
Please note that your exam deferral notification has to reach the office no later than 48 hours after the examination time.
Final Grades
Your instructor will mark the final examination, calculate your mark and post it to your WebAdvisor account. This will usually take 5 to 6 weeks from the date of the final examination. Information on WebAdvisor is available as a link in the left navigation bar on this web page.
