Additional Credits Required?

The Laurentian University Online H.B.Com Degree Requirements form provided with your letter of offer indicates whether or not you have to complete up to 12 credits of additional requirements.


The H.B.Com Additional Requirements must be completed as undergraduate university level courses. They cannot be equivalent to your CGA studies, Commerce courses or Business related courses. For example, most Accounting courses, Business courses, Economic courses, Law courses, or Financial courses will not be approved.


You have three options to complete your additional credits:  



1) Online Elective Course with Laurentian University


Those students, who complete the internship, could complete the COMM 4405/HC1: Humanist Issues in Commercial Practice (6 credits) course towards the additional credit requirements.  Students may also complete two of  these  3 credit courses, COMM 4506/PT1: Project Management (3 credits) or COMM 4763/RK1: Risk Management (3 credits) or COMM 4456 Human Resources Management (3 credits) towards additional credit requirements.


2) Distance Education Courses at Laurentian University


Through the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE), LU offers a large number of distance education courses.

The following list of courses has been approved as potential electives towards the additional requirements. If you elect to take another course through the CCE department, first contact the Program Manager for approval.

All CCE courses are offered following the regular university academic calendar.  Usually, 3-credit courses are offered in the Fall (September – December), Winter (December – April) and Spring (May – July) sessions, while 6-credit courses are usually offered in the Fall/Winter (September – April) or in the Spring (May – July) sessions.



Process to enroll in a Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) Course:


Step 1: Send an e-mail to CCE_L@laurentian.ca or call toll free 1-800-461-4030 ext: 3942 to find an appropriate course.


Step 2: Complete the following forms (available in PDF) and send to the Registrar by fax to 705-675-4891.

3) Courses at Other Universities


Canadian Virtual University


Laurentian University is a partner institution with the Canadian Virtual University.  This partnership allows you to take courses available through the Internet or by distance education at the following nine Canadian Universities:

Once you have decided on the university and course(s) that you want to take, you must inform LU of your decision. Complete the Letter of Permission Form and forward it to the LU/CGA Program Manager.  Click on the top right link for the required coordinates.


Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that an official transcript is forwarded to the Laurentian University Commerce Department, Attention: On line Programs immediately upon completion of the course taken at another institution.



Other Universities:


If you would like to take a course at an institution other than those listed with the Canadian Virtual University, you must receive permission from the program manager at Laurentian University prior to enrolling in the course. To get permission you have to complete a Letter of Permission form. The Program Manager will reply with a signed copy of the Letter of Permission Form  only then can you enroll in the course of your choice without having to go through the usual admission process that most universities require.  It is your responsibility to ensure that an official transcript is sent to Laurentian University Commerce Department, Attention: Online Programs immediately upon completion of the course taken at another institution.


The Letter of Permission fee is $25.  The Letter of Permission Form should be sent to the LU/CGA Program Manager. Click on the top right link for the required coordinates.
